Hi Michael,

I verified with my host that I have everything installed and running except OpenSSL. Is there a workaround to get this working without OpenSSL?

cURL is running, I have PHP 5.2.x and Joomla 1.5.20.

Your component was really amazing when it worked and saved me a huge amount of time, I would really love to get it working again.

OpenSSL is required to successfully communicate with Twitter using their new security protocol. So, there isn't really any work around. OpenSSL is fairly standard and found on most web servers. Your host should be able to compile PHP with OpenSSL without to much fuss. Ask them to do this for you, if they won't perhaps it's time to find a new host.

~ Best regards

Assuming my host can turn OpenSSL on, will everything just start "magically" working?

Can you recommend a host that supports this and works well with Joomla?

Well, there are a fair number of installs for version 2.0 already. Considering that there have been very, very few reported issues, yes, the extension should start "magically" working.

I prefer not to recommend hosts. This is because what one person may consider a good host, another may not. It depends on what your particular needs are. And I do a small bit of service providing myself, primarily for clients that we have built websites for. So, it is hard not to come off sounding bias.

However, I will say, that back in the day, I hosted with JTLNet.com. I found their service to be reliable and their tech support to be responsive. Not to mention they are affordable.

I have turned the 'tweet on update' on (it was off), but that wasn't it. I will look into the editor later (have to leave for work in a bit), cannot just switch it, as I have protected my configuration.php for Joomla, so I have to eit that by hand.

Thanks for the code tips, especially how to write debug logging. If it's not the editor, that will have to wait until the weekend :(.

Hi,

I just realize that it doesn't work for me anymore. IT works 3 times after your update and now, i finish an article and nothing was send to my twitter account.

Do you think I must re install everything ?

Regards.

Hi Ordisport,

I sent you a replacement plugin with a minor change. I also included install instructions in the email. Let me know if it resolves the issue.

Thanks.

Hi Michael,

After confirming with my host a second time, OpenSSL is in fact running on the server. I should have all of the requirements met now. I would like to take you up on your offer to look at my setup and see if you can help me figure out what is wrong. PLease let me know how I can send you my login information privately.

Thanks,
Chris

clinlabnav,

I took a look at your site last night. Everything is in working order. To send a tweet, create a new article using the Joomla Article Manager and click save. Then go to Admin>>Components>>Nice Tweets you will see the tweet in the log list. You can then verify that it was posted to Twitter by visiting your Twitter account. I was able to replicate this process successfully several times. Now that your server has OpenSSL, the Nice Tweets extension will work properly from here on out.
