Nice Product

Postby rscott7706 » Tue Aug 17, 2010 10:09 am

I bought this the other day, and it seems to be a very nice and fairly comprehensive tool for shopping carts.

One drawback that forces me to not use this on the site I am currently designing is that fact that multiple selections don't flow to the PayPal checkout page. In other words, I can build an option, 1-5 items, but the user can't select 3 for instance and have that flow to the PayPal checkout. It only flows one and they have to change it there.

We all know how infantile most web users are, and to instruct them to change the amount at the checkout (and update it) is probably going to result in numerous errors by users.

I don't mean to shortchange this extension - it is purely DYNAMITE!! And the price is so fair - I can put it aide and use it sometime in the future.

I just want to say thanks for the good work, and hope you all the best.

Thanks for the feedback. It is always helpful. I am not sure that I truly understand your desired functionality. Do you mean that you would like the buyer to be able to specify multiple quantities of on item on your site before they click the buy button?

I replied once, but it must have gotten dumped.

Yes, (in a sense) I either want them to be able to choose a certain quantity based on on quantity discounts:

6-10 = 49.95 - $5.00 = $44.95
11-25 = 49.95 - $10.00 = $39.95
26-50 = 49.95 -$15.00 = $34.95

Here is my code, then a link to my prototype site:

{nicepaypal:cart||Basic Patent Plaque||5.95|||1|.3|drop;color;Select background color:;White;Silver;Gold|dropprice;cost;Select Number of Plaques;1-5:49.95;6-10:44.95;11-25:39.95;26-50:34.95}

http://www.patentplaquesdirect.com/inde ... &Itemid=54

So, you see that you can choose the discount selection, but need to change amount of needed plaques at PayPal checkout. (For instance if i choose 11-25 selection, but want 12 plaques, I have to put 12 in the amount at the PayPal checkout).

I hope this is a better explanation. I don't see a work around at this point.

I see, yes this makes a lot more sense. This would be a tricky feature to work in I think. Basically, you would need to do some sort of calculation on the site before the buyer went to checkout (based on the quantity they entered and the scaling volume discounts).

Current pricing structure.
6-10 = 49.95 - $5.00 = $44.95
11-25 = 49.95 - $10.00 = $39.95
26-50 = 49.95 -$15.00 = $34.95

What if you set up your pricing structure like the one below.
1 $49.95 ea. = $49.95
10 $44.95 ea. = $449.5
25 $39.95 ea. = $998.75
50 $34.95 ea. = $1747.50

This way the buyer is purchasing 1 unit of x number of items. So, a pack of ten frames would be sold as one unit. If they wanted 20 frames they could either over buy and get an extended discount by selecting the 25 item pack or they could buy two units of the 10 pack. I see a lot businesses using this sort of pricing model.

You got my thought process going. Did I miss anything, or can I make a large selection list?

I would need to make a selection list (and actually this is not a bad idea):

1 $49.95
2 $99.90
3 $149.85
4 $199.80
5 $249.75
6 $269.70
7 $314.65
8 $359.60
9 $404.55
10 $449.50
11 $439.45
12 $479.40
13 $519.35
14 $559.30
15 $599.25
16 $639.20
17 $679.15
18 $719.10
19 $759.05
20 $799.00
21 $838.95
22 $878.90
23 $918.85
24 $958.80
25 $998.75
26 $908.70
27 $943.65
28 $978.60
29 $1,013.55
30 $1,048.50
31 $1,083.45
32 $1,118.40
33 $1,153.35
34 $1,188.30
35 $1,223.25
36 $1,258.20
37 $1,293.15
38 $1,328.10
39 $1,363.05
40 $1,398.00
41 $1,432.95
42 $1,467.90
43 $1,502.85
44 $1,537.80
45 $1,572.75
46 $1,607.70
47 $1,642.65
48 $1,677.60
49 $1,712.55
50 $1,747.50

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to make a large drop down list. The thing is that, depending on its size, it may run off the browser page and part of it may be obscured. You will have to test for that.

~ Best regards
