A way to track free or paid downloads on google analytics??

Postby stevenjs » Fri Apr 06, 2012 5:05 am

Well, there's a counter within Nice for each "hit" -- presumably on the download button (?) -- but that is pretty lame. Was the download cancelled after the "hit" ?

Is there any way to get a real "report" on downloads within the Nice extension?

Is there no way to hook up downloads, free as well as paid, to google analytics?? At least to count them?

There is a LOT left out of this extension, and little is explained (or broached in the forum for that matter) on this subject.

Also, what is the story with this forum search limitations??????? Can't search "maximum allowable downloads"?? Too common??? All of the most necessary and relevant search terms are "too common." The search function here is a joke.

Sorry, this seems to be an extremely limited extension with like support. Would expect much much more for the price.

Hi,

I totally agree with you regarding the report capabilities of the extension. They need to be more robust. That is why I am working on developing a more extensive version of the extension. Actually, it has been a long time coming. The one real hang up is the free download tracking. The extension is designed to allow folks to download files without being logged in to the site. This is a design feature, as many web admins don't want to support user accounts and many buyers don't want to hassle with logging into a site to download a file. With paid downloads the extension uses the buyer's Paypal information to track the download. However. with free downloads, the site visitor is anonymous when the download event takes place. So, I am not really sure how to track that.

The more robust version that is currently being developed will include the ability to allow Google eCommerce tracking. Actually, even though the more advanced version of the extension is not ready for distribution, I can give you instructions on how to add some code changes to enable Google eCommerce tracking. Would you be interested in this?

As for tech support, I am not sure about the search limitations you are encountering with the forum. I will look into it. I can say that "maximum allowable downloads" is very prevalent throughout the forum. For the time being, you could try a google search: maximum allowable downloads site:trinitronic.com

Also, have you looked through the extensions documentation page?

http://trinitronic.com/index.php/Joomla ... ation.html

That should get you some results. In addition, your support requests and forum posts will almost always be answered within 24-48, which is more than I can say for a lot of other extension developers.

~ All the best
