Step by step tutorial PLEASE!!!

Postby MasterGunz » Mon Feb 01, 2010 7:41 pm

Ok so I'm super new to joomla and I went through the start up guide and pretty much got the hang of it. Now the website I will be creating I will need a cart and I downloaded the google checkout plugin. I signed in to the admin page and went to extensions, then install/uninstall, I went to browse chose the file and uploaded. The upload was succesfull. Now what do I do?

Now you go to Extensions>>Plugin Manager>>System - Nice Google Checkout. There you will need to enter your Google Checkout info into the parameter fields and hit save.

After that you should be able to enter tags into any of your articles and let the magic of Nice Google Checkout take over.

Thanks for the help. In the details tab, what is the order drop down menu for? I enabled the cart but I dont see it at all. I do see the view cart option though.

The order drop down sets the order for the plugin in the plugin list. The order of the plugins determines which plugin gets fired off first. For the Nice Google Checkout this is not very important and generally can be ignored.

Once you add a tag to an article, the cart should appear. This is true, unless you set the cart to remain hidden when empty. If the hide cart parameter is set then the cart will remain hidden until the visitor adds something to it.

Great!!! You have been very helpful. But again i'm very new to this so what exactly do you mean by adding a tag to an article.

Well, the best way to get familiar with the Nice Google Checkout plugin is to read the documentation.

http://trinitronic.com/index.php/Downlo ... ation.html

When you create a new article in Joomla you add a text tag like this one, {nicecheckout:16.00|T-Shirt|http://trinitronic.com/images/t-shirt_example.jpg|2.50}. Then save your article, (make sure it is set to publish). When you view the article from the front end the tag will be replaced with a product listing that looks something like this:

Visitors can then purchase the product by clicking on the Add to Cart button and proceeding through the Google Checkout process.

I offer another plugin, the Nice PayPal Button plugin, which provides a means to add PayPal buttons to your site. You can download it here, http://trinitronic.com/index.php/component/option,com_p2dxt/Itemid,123/. And learn more about it here, http://trinitronic.com/index.php/Downloads/nice-paypal-button-documentation.html.

Both the Nice PayPal Button plugin and the Nice Google Checkout plugin can run on the same site without conflict. However, I would advise against this, because they use separate cart and checkout systems. This could be confusing to the buyer.

I only ask because for some strange reason lots of customers are more comfortable using the paypal system.

Well, that's the power of being able to add the product listing to an article. In the article body you can add anything to the article that you want. You can add a description with as many photos as you would like. You do this just as you would with any article. Then add the product tag below the main copy, or above, or in the middle for that matter. There is no restriction to the way you can layout the information.

As for the 360 view, well, that would take some different software. You need Flash, AJAX, or Java for something like that. I am not intimately familiar with the various technologies for doing this. But, many of them, such as the ones used for cell phone 360 views, actually use a 3D computer model for the product image to achieve the effect.

How about being able to click on the image for a zoom in or a larger image of the product. Does that have anything to do with the cart or is that part of the codes used in joomla? Do you have an example of what you explained above?

Well, the product image code is written in such a way as to be "read" by the Google cart JavaScript. I wouldn't advise tinkering with it, as you could very well break the communication between the product listing and the cart.

Examples... Well, there are tons of examples on how to edit articles in Joomla. I would start with the quickstart guide provided by Joomla, http://help.joomla.org/ghop/feb2008/tas ... kstart.pdf Specifically, I would read the section titled "Sections, Categories, and Articles" on page 10 of the PDF.

For examples of rotating cell phones most major cell phone service suppliers use them. You can see one here, http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/Cel ... -with-Aqua by clicking on the line "View Demo" below the phone image.

Ok the phone example is what i'm talking about. When you click on additionel views you can see different angles of the product. I would like to give my customers the same type of options on my website.

I am not sure if there is an extension for that in the extension directory. You will need to look. Usually, this sort of effect is achieved through Flash, AJAX or JAVA. The rotating phone example is actually a 3D computer module, it's not a picture at all. So, to achieve that effect you would also need someone familiar with 3D computer graphics to build a model for you.

In other examples on the same site, obviously, the static phone views are images. And when you click thumbnails a different photo is shown to the visitor. This can be accomplished with AJAX.
