Presales Questions

Postby zahir » Thu Mar 15, 2012 3:21 am

Hi

I'm considering using Nice Memberships + Nice Content Access for a site im busy re-designing but needed some clarification on a few items. If this has been mentioned in any of the documentation / videos, please feel free point me to the relevant resource.

1. Member Profile Page: We're working on the design of the site at the moment and need to know what member profile pages are available (if any) and what content they contain. I assume that once a member has logged in, he should be able to access his profile page that lets him know the status of his current membership, etc. If the component does provide such a page for members, would it be possible to let me know what data is available on this page? (even a screenshot will do.). Also, if such a page is provided by the component, do we have any control over what is displayed on the page? (e.g. directly via component or indirectly via template overrides).

2. Multiple Memberships: Is it possible for users who are already members of a group X, to signup to another group Y, such that their new membership levels grant them access to content from both membership groups X and Y?

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks a bunch for your interest in my extensions. I appreciate it.

The Nice Memberships extension does not provide a profile page for its members. It does have a Profile plugin that appends membership information to the Joomla profile page (ships with Joomla). The information provided is basically two lists. One list of the members current memberships and one list of all other available memberships. If the Joomla profile page is not desirable, you can use any other profile extension and link the user to the main Nice Memberships page yourdomain.com/index.php?option=com_nicememberships. The main nice memberships page shows the same two lists to its visitors.

2. Multiple Memberships: Is it possible for users who are already members of a group X, to signup to another group Y, such that their new membership levels grant them access to content from both membership groups X and Y?

Yes, the extension adds levels of access with each additional subscription. So, if a member of group X subscribes to group Y, the members will belong to both groups X and Y. This is true as long as both subscriptions remain in good standing. If one expires, then the user will be removed from the respective group.

What the extension will not do (except for cancellation and expiration) is remove users from user groups. If a member belongs to user groups X and Y, membership Z cannot subtract either X or Y from the member. It can only add group Z.

Also, you say that you are re-designing your site. It seems fair to point out that, at this time, there is no good method for migrating subscribers from other subscription extensions to Nice Memberships. Currently, the Nice Memberships extension needs all of its members to be signed up through its system.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your responses. The profile pages and multiple memberships do make sense.

Does the members current memberships list show when the users membership will expire?

I wanted to ask this but noticed that someone already asked the same question in another thread. I am assuming it should be possible to manually port and populate the initial data (users+subscriptions) directly into the database once I've had a look at your schema. I've done that for another extension and it seemed to work fine. Manually adding users via a form or csv upload would be great addition though.

Thanks again!

Hi,

Does the members current memberships list show when the users membership will expire?

No, the subscription details are available in the user's PayPal account.

Yes, this should be completely possible. The one thing that I wonder is whether the PayPal subscription IPN URL can be redirected. Each PayPal subscription stores a IPN URL that PayPal sends messages to (stored with PayPal). As far as I know, this URL is not accessible once the subscription is set up. Ah, that's it! You may be able to set up an .htaccess redirect for any old IPN message URLs (from your old extension). That would work, I bet. In any event, give it a try. If you run into any snags, let me know and I will be happy to help.
