Cancelled Email Message

Postby mdm123 » Sat Mar 03, 2012 7:04 am

Hi,

I have a subscribed user who cancelled his subscription. He received an email: "Hello %firstname% %lastname%,Your %itemname% subscription has been cancelled. Your access to the subscription content will remain active, until the end of the paid subscription period.Best regards,Website Administrator". But he still receiving same email couple of times a day every day . I've upgrade paypal subscription to enchanced paypal subscription, that's means my subscribers don't need to have paypal account, they can use credit cards. Maybe that's the problem. Or I just need to uncheck "IPN Message Reattempt" in settings? Any ideas? Thank you.

Hi,

I haven't run across this issue before. However, the cancellation email is tide in to when PayPal sends the cancellation IPN message to your site. So, perhaps, unchecking "IPN Message Reattempt" would do the trick. Is it only the one subscriber that is having this trouble?

Hi, Michael

Thank you for your answer. Yes it was first subscriber who using his credit card with no paypal account. But I've tried to uncheck "IPN Message Reattempt" and he told that he stop getting emails (I hope). Anyway what the purpose of "IPN Message Reattempt" button? Thanks again.

Hi,

Oh, that is good news. I hope that the solution sticks.

The "IPN Message Reattempt" is exactly what it sounds like. It tells PayPal to reattempt delivery of IPN messages. It is supposed to function as a fail safe, in the event the UPN message is not received successfully by the website. It is not supposed to spam a site like it did in your case. Perhaps, PayPal has introduced a new glitch.

In any event, I noticed during testing that the IPN messages rarely failed to be sent. The ratio was perhaps 1 in every 1,000 - 2,000 messages. And keep in mind during testing we were slamming the PayPal sandbox pretty hard with purchase orders. Sometime ordering 10 - 15 subscriptions every 10 - 20 seconds. So, I think you're pretty safe turning that feature off.

~ All the best
