Hi, is there anyway to setup nice membership to only take one payment to gain access to my website. I don't want the payment to recur!!!

Hi,

Yes, it is possible to set up subscriptions for a single payment. When creating a new membership item, you will see the subtitled "Subscription" section, simply uncheck the "Recurring Payments" check box.

I want to offer a lifetime subscription, and even when I do no recurring payments, PayPal sets it up for 5 years. How do I work around this? Right now, I have wording on the site that says "when you click subscribe, PayPal will say 5 years. It's actually a lifetime membership, and you won't be charged again" or something similar. Once they subscribe, do I then have to go into the backend and manually setup a lifetime user group? I just launched in the last couple of days, and don't have my first paid subscription yet. I just want to be prepared when I do.

Hi,

It is true, paypal's maximum subscription length is five years. There's no work around for this. As this is a paypal policy. Paypal will not accept lifetime subscriptions.

However, you could set a standard paypal buy now button for a lifetime subscription. And then manually process the orders. To do this, you would need to manually create a user account in joomla and add them to your lifetime user group.

The entire reason I got Nice Memberships was to make the process automatic. I want to be able to sell access control levels, as basically my users are signing up to get all of the music one of my bands has on the site, in addition to all of the music they will ever upload to the site, but I want my customers to have instant access to the music once they pay.

I have tested the process out with a free trial membership, and am looking at my subscribers list. If I simply delete that subscriber, and then manually re-add them, what happens? Will PayPal still try to charge them in 5 years? Will PayPal refund what they've already paid?

Hi,

For lifetime subscriptions, you could set up a subscription for five years that did not recur. This would make it so that the buyer was only billed one time. At the end of the five years paypal would send out the end of term message to your site. Normally, this would cause the site to unenroll your users from their lifetime user group. However, if you were to delete their subscription record from the nice memberships subscriptions list, then the extension would not be able to match paypal's end of term message with an active subscriber. This would create a situation where the user would not be unenroll to from their lifetime newsgroup.
